BREAKING: Suzuki Auto to discontinue new car sales

A number of news organizations are reporting that Suzuki Motor Corporation will be closing up shop here in North America after the company announced it would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

According to AutoGuide.com, Suzuki said while the decision to discontinue new automobile sales in the U.S. was difficult to make, today's actions were inevitable under these circumstances.

According to the article, Suzuki has said it will continue to honor warranties and offer parts through its dealer network.

This has been long speculated here and on other websites. So while not a shock, it's still very sad to me. I will have to say that we traded in our SX4 in the nick of time, however. My heart goes out to those owners of current Suzukis; I hope it isn't too much of a pain to get service and parts in the future.

We'll have more details and reactions as soon as they come about.

UPDATE: 11/5/12
We've found the website ASMC Realignment, which gives an explanation about the situation. It also contains a full press release

UPDATE: 11/6/12
Apparently Suzuki Canada will remain in business. it will only be Suzuki U.S. that is closing its doors.

Sucks that they are clasing up in the USA. They put out a lot of good underrated cars like the Kizashi & SX4. Not to mention the classic Samurai & Sidekick offroaders. I really like the Kizashi. Almost bought one a few months ago, but they didn't have a GTS with a 6-speed manual nearby. Lots of CVTs, but no manuals, so no sale for me. I guess we definitely won't be getting the upcoming Swift now.
