In the driveway: 2012 Scion iQ

2012 Scion iQ - Subcompact Culture
In the driveway this week is the 2012 Scion iQ. This A-segment runabout is about as small as it looks. One of the things that struck us was the size of the wheels/tires—those are 16s! They look huge on this little rig. Mercedes and i both think the iQ's styling is quite good, and also both think it looks a bit shoe-like. And yes, I love the orange color.

After 12 miles of driving thus far, the iQ accelerates like a real car and handles surprisingly good. With 94 hp on tap (only 12 less than the 2012 Yaris) and less weight, there seems to be plenty of spunk. The iQ only comes with a CVT at this point, by the way. However, there is no mini-car driving weirdness to report other than the ride is choppy at times and due to its short wheelbase, it tends to buck a bit on broken pavement. We'll see if that continues for the rest of the week.

It's a pretty innovative thing, actually, and feels much more "smart" than another two-door hatchback minicar that will remain nameless. Stay tuned.

adoScion needs to put some nice alloys on this car, not those cheap wheel covers!
