GM confirms sale of Chevrolet Spark in the U.S.
Well, it's official: Chevrolet says it will be selling the Spark microcar here in the U.S of A. There has been talk of importing the car (which is made in South Korea) for nearly three years. The photo above is the Spark Z-Spec Concept from the 2010 SEMA Show. According to Green Car Reports, the Spark will go on sale in 2012 as a 2013 model. Not sure what engine we'll get, but the Spark is sold with a 1.0-liter or 1.2-liter mill elsewhere. The current version of the Spark sells as the Daewoo Matiz in South Korea, and is also already on sale in Australia, Europe, India, and South America.
FYI, the Spark is smaller than the incoming Chevrolet Sonic, which is set for sale here shortly.

Nice to see GM bring this Stateside. I thought it was a goner since GM stopped mentioning about this car and nothing is posted on the US website. GM Canada has the Spark mentioned on their website.
I saw one of these new Chevy Sparks first hand last year when I went to Uzbekistan. Oh, Chevy/Daewoo Matiz are everywhere there!
If Chevy can beat the price of the IQ by a couple of K this looks like the car I will get.
1.4 turbo and 1.8 engine
oops i was thinkin of the Sonic, my bad
At least the Spark is fun and useful in the city, and we think the Spark will find a market on this side of the ocean when it arrives late next year as a 2012 model. We just wish it had a bigger engine or a turbo for a little more straight-line.
Though the Chevy Spark is classified as a mini passenger car, this five-door trendy ride is one of the most space-efficient cars in the mini segment. It has ample storage space to accommodate a good volume of necessities for any type of itinerary. The rear seat base and back both split 60:40 to fold flat, thus increasing the luggage space. All three Spark variants can comfortably sit 5 adult passengers.
