Ford sees Fiesta as a hit in the U.S.

It's not even for sale yet, but BusinessWeek is saying that Ford believes the Fiesta will be a hit in the U.S. The article goes on to say that this car has already upped Ford's market share 8.1% in Europe.

Allegedly, Ford is also trying to train its U.S. dealers to treat the Fiesta as a "premium car," and not just an inexpensive hatchback.

For "...train its U.S. dealers to treat the Fiesta as a 'premium car,' and not just an inexpensive hatchback" read "train its U.S. dealers to sell Fiesta seekers with $20k to spend a loaded Fiesta and not try to move them into a Fusion".

Yeah; it'll be interesting to see how things shake out.

iirc that worked for Ford in the early years of the Focus, when the Taurus had already become mainly a fleet car and before the rest of the compact market passed the Focus by.

Where I live it seems like 85% of the cars are Fords, Chevys, and GMCs. Considering how neglected the subcompact is by these companies, and how bland all their other cars look, I'm almost positive Ford has the right of it. Especially in places where I live, this car will sell. And likely sell very very well. (Baring another economic melt-down.)

Frankly, it's about time that Ford bring in some of it's higher quality European models. Maybe some of the other companies will follow...
