Spy Photos of the 2018 Suzuki Jimny

2018 Suzuki Jimny spy photos

The folks over at have posted photos of what appears to be the 2018 Suzuki Jimny. As you can see, it's boxy, tiny, and looks a little like a tiny G-Wagen, Defender, or even maybe Ford's old Bronco concept! Where do we sign up?

Suzuki isn't one to mess with its popular little 4x4, as the last major redesign was in 1998—19 years ago, so the Jimny is due for a refresh for certain. It's stuck to its guns on having true off-road capability with a low-range transfer case, ladder frame, and solid front and rear axles.

We've heard lot of rumors of the years about whether Suzuki would take the Jimny down the crossover path, nixing its solid axles in place of independent suspension. However, it has been said it'll keep its solid axles. According to, the '18 Jimny will still offer a low-range transfer case, is expected to continue with a ladder frame, and power could come from a variety of engines including a turbo 1.0-liter three-cylinder, a 660cc turbo mill, and a normally aspirated 1.2-liter engine. I'm hoping Suzuki debuts its new Jinny at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. I'll be uncontrollably salivating the whole time. Someone get me a napkin!

It almost goes without saying, but since Suzuki doesn't sell cars in North America any longer, we won't see it here, despite my insatiable desire for one, which Suzuki obviously hasn't accounted for. As it is, I've been counting down the days until I can import a 1998 Jimny. As of this moment, I only have to wait 5 years, 9 months, and 5 days! And then ...
