We've been hearing about the hot 2017 Toyota Yaris GRMN for months now, but it has officially debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show. We've got some specs:
- 1.8-liter supercharged engine
- 210 horsepower
- Six-speed manual transmission
- Torsen limited-slip differential
- Upgraded suspension with larger sway bar
- 17-inch BBS wheels
- Four-pot brake calipers
- Steering wheel from the GT86
- Aluminum pedals
- Unique seats
This interior is looking pretty darn good. It's still essentially the 2012 refresh, but those seats!
Oh yeah—those looks like fantastic seats. Me likey. Drooool!
Here's a closeup of the front fascia, which all 2017 Euro Yaris models are apparently getting. I do like the BBS wheels, too. Classic.
Apparently Toyota is being tight lipped about whether or not North America will get this force-fed hot hatch. While I truly hope it crosses the pond, I have very little faith, unfortunately. I will be the first one to admit I was wrong if it does show up here, but I'm going to just assume we'll continue to get the standard Yaris model along with the Mazda-based Yaris iA sedan. Sources say the GRMN will go on sale in Europe early next year.
Prove me wrong, Big T—bring it to the U.S. and do battle with the MINI Cooper, Fiat 500 Abarth, and Ford Fiesta ST!
UPDATE: There's a fair bit more info over at the Toyota UK Blog, including an underhood shot. Looks like it may be a 2ZR-FE with a roots-style blower bolted on. And while we have no official confirmation, Road & Track; Track is saying "it doesn't sound like it's coming to America..."

It's always such a disappointment that manufacturers can do something, then don't. I see what the issue might be for the Yaris, but what about cars like the Versa Note (Juke powertrain) and Accent/Rio (Veloster Turbo powertrain)? Those engines are here-- they're legal, the parts ready.
One thing I'm noticing about the seats: no real adjustment. They can be slid fore and aft, and the rake adjusted, but even the old Yaris TS (like, first gen dating back to the Echo years) had a wheel on the seat to adjust the bottom cushion... sort of like the MR2 Spyder did. Given those seats are very similar to the Scion xA (amen), I wish that adjustment made its way to this market.
