Well, the addition of a boat tail can increase fuel economy by quite a bit due to aerodynamic properties. If you're a hypermiler, you may be familiar with this money-saving, albeit aesthetically unpleasing modification. Although not exactly attractive, I bet this guy is saving a boattail ... er boatload of cash at the pump. Plus, think of all the awesome stuff you could put in that boat tail.

@BSP_yaris: If you visit here, it might be a bit more understood. There are all kinds of bumperstickers and stuff that say "Keep Portland Weird." Ever seen the show "Portlandia"?
And I also agree with my good friend, xbeerd. Then again, he's been here. And he also lived with me in college.

The car's fuel economy can be increased not only by its exterior properties, but also within it. Why settle for being weird like this one when you can upgrade its engine instead?
It has good functionality. I only doubt if it is feasible though.
It has the use of functionality in the economy. It won't go into the big leagues but if someone would ever patent and improve this design...
