In the driveway: 2010 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport

2010 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport - Subcompact CultureIn the driveway this week is the 2010 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. First impressions are good: Solid fit and finish, decent power, great versatility, and a surprisingly good ride. It's got 170 hp and heated seats, too. There's a lot to like—and a great car for the rain-soaked Pacific Northwest (and for trips up skiing).

I like the current Impreza hatch, but the Outback Sport package kind of leaves me cold; that two-tone just looks like a badly mismatched repair to me. I'm not alone either: I see a lot more base Impreza hatches than Outback Sports.

I was never a fan of the two-tone paint aesthetically. However, my 2009 SX4 has a ton of rock chips (to where its down to the primer) in sections due to all of the gravel they put down on the mountain roads around here. I would kill to have something like that on our SX4 now.

I, too see more base Imprezas vs. OB Sports. However, it's a very competent little package. It's not as fun or fast as a WRX, but gets better mileage and costs less, too (and doesn't use premium fuel).
