The House of Representatives has passed the "Cash for Clunkers" bill. Officially known as the Community Assistance to Recycle and Save Act (CARS Act), it will allow people to trade in older (e.g. post 1985, so not that old) vehicles that get poor MPG (e.g. less-than 18 MPG for passenger cars) and get a credit of $3,500. The rules are a bit different for trucks.
Proponents are hoping to get some low-MPG vehicles off the roads, and get some higher-MPG vehicles on the streets.

As a subcompact owner, I'm pissed that I have to subsidize the trade-in of a bunch of gas guzzlers. They aren't even going to sell them off overseas? Crush them? WTF? You really can't win for losing in this country, can you? Buy something sensible and economical and still end up footing the bill for some knuckle dragging retard that won't un-ass himself from his '89 Suburban for a used Accord unless bribed with some of that stinky Government Cheese.
Just what we need...automotive welfare. Give me a damned break.
