If you've been paying attention to the automotive news today, you no doubt heard that MINI USA is going to start leasing 500 all-electric Mini Coopers. They will only be available on the West Coast and East Coast(e.g. California, New York, and New Jersey), but it's a start! With over 200 hp, they should be pretty zippy (0-60 in about 8 seconds), although batteries weigh a lot (Li Ion battery weighs 572 lbs). The car is expected to have a 150 mile range. The car debuts at the L.A. Autoshow in November. More info at AutoblogGreen.

the cooper S already gets an astounding 34MPG highway, that's amazing for a supercharged 4 banger
I agree.
And not to be picky, but the new Cooper S that gets 34 mpg is actually turbocharged. (Pre-2007 MINIs were supercharged and got 29 mpg on the highway, which still isn't bad).
